level IV Pointe Shoe Fitting Information

Dear Level IV Students and Parents:

The BIG DAY is here! Level IV is a milestone level at PNB School that many students dream of reaching, as students begin pointe work. We share your excitement at getting those first pair of pointe shoes!

We have a fantastic fitting opportunity right in our own backyard! Rhea Whitfield Lwin, owner of On Pointe Dancewear in Bellevue, has graciously agreed once again to fit all PNB level IV students. Rhea has been working with PNBS and Freed to provide the BEST fitting experience we need for our students.

Fitting details:
All Level IV students must go through an in-person fitting in order to purchase pointe shoes from On Pointe Dancewear. Pointe shoe fittings must be scheduled ahead of time through On Pointe’s website: www.onpointebellevue.com. Please make your appointment as soon as possible; students should have their pointe shoes by the first day of PNB classes (September 8th).

* Select the service “PNB Level 4 First Pair”
* Please arrive on time with clean feet and trimmed toenails.
* Dancer should arrive wearing clean convertible tights. Please no full-footed tights.
* All dancers must go through an in-person fitting in order to purchase pointe shoes from On Pointe Dancewear
* Each dancer must have their own individual appointment
* Dancers’ families can expect to purchase the following: 1 pair of pointe shoes, matching satin ribbon, pointe shoe elastic, Pro-Pads (toe pads), and a sewing kit. Each dancer will receive a free mesh pointe shoe bag and a special PNB discount of 10% off for this one-time purchase.
* Students should not purchase spacers, toe caps, or lamb’s wool at this time (per PNB School). There should be as little in the shoe as possible when starting pointe work, to allow students to feel the correct shape and placement of the foot. Pro-Pads should provide enough protection at this stage of training, unless PNB faculty suggests otherwise.

All shoes must meet PNB School faculty approval before sewing. On Pointe and PNBS faculty will make every effort to find the best fit we can for each student. On Pointe has expert fitters, and they are also aware of PNBS requirements. Some students may need to experiment with a different type of shoe. The faculty will continue to advise each student to find the best shoe for her foot; so once you have purchased your shoes, please bring them to class and your teacher will approve them to be sewn.

A special “Sewing Seminar” for students will be held during scheduled pointe classes after shoes are given final approval. Students should have their pointe shoes and sewing supplies at each pointe class.

We know that this is a very exciting time for Level IV students, and we hope that any questions or concerns you may have will be answered at your fittings and during class time. Please contact the School if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

Denise Bolstad
Managing Director

Spike in COVID-19 Numbers – Safety Reminder

Hello PNB School Families,

We have seen a spike in positive COVID-19 cases the past couple of weeks. We want to remind you that if your student is experiencing any symptoms or has been in contact with a positive case they should not attend classes and should test for COVID-19 if possible. Please keep the school office informed of any symptoms, exposures and positive or negative test results by emailing pnbschool@pnb.org

King County is currently in the moderate/medium contagion range.  Below is some guidance on how best to keep healthy at this level:

  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines: Get vaccinated and boosted. Vaccines are available for everyone ages 5 and older. Booster doses are available for everyone 12 and older.
  • Wear a face mask in public indoor settings. Upgrade to higher-quality masks, including KN95, KF94, N95, or a cloth mask on top of a surgical mask. Higher-quality masks will most benefit people who are at high risk of severe illness, are over 65 or are unvaccinated.
  • Get tested. Testing is especially important if you have COVID-19 symptoms or were recently in contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. You should also get tested before and after traveling or getting together with others.
  • Stay home if sick or recently exposed. Follow all isolation and quarantine guidance, including wearing a face mask. COVID-19 is highly contagious. You can spread COVID-19 even if you do not have symptoms.
  • Wash your hands. Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or use a hand sanitizer.

Below are some testing resource links:

Free King County Testing Sites

Curative Sites – Offers both Rapid PCR (free with insurance, results in 1-2 hours) and 1-2 day PCR testing

At-Home Rapid Antigen Tests – can be purchased at Walgreens, CVS, etc.  Households can also request free tests through federal and local programs:

Federal Test Kit Request (you can now request a second set of kits per household)

Washington Test Kit Request (you can request one set of kits per month per household)

This season of rehearsals and performances is so important and we hope to have as many students safely with us for this last month of classes as possible.

We wish you all a safe and healthy May and June!
