May Portrait Sessions with Angela Sterling

Pacific Northwest Ballet’s own photographer for 25 years, Angela Sterling, has just announced her final series of portrait shoots in May for the 2023/2024 Season for PNB School students in Levels V-PD. You can see examples of Angela Sterling’s portraits of the PNB company in the windows of McCaw Hall.

Located at Angela Sterling Studios, a beautiful location in Pioneer Square, Seattle, each 1 to 2-hour session is dedicated to capturing your best moments. Portrait Sessions are limited, and are first-come, first-served. Sessions are available on Sundays in May. Please check out her link below and choose the session you would like.

This will be the last chance to work with Angela Sterling this Season. Don’t miss out!

EASTSIDE: Event Traffic Notification – Saturday, April 27th

Hello PNB Eastside famlies,

Tomorrow Saturday, April 27th the Link 2 line of the Sound Transit, with service between the South Bellevue Station and Redmond Technology station, will be open to passenger service. There will be a celebration and ribbon cutting ceremony at the Bellevue Downtown station. While we do not expect this to impact us directly, we do anticipate an increase of traffic in the surrounding area.

Make sure to plan your trip carefully and consider alternate means of travel!

Due to a typo in previous communication, we updated the schedule for watch days. Please see the date highlighted in yellow for the changes. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

We are thrilled to invite you to observe your student in class this month!

Please find your student’s designated observation class day and time and review the observation day protocols below.

  • nly two guests per student will be permitted to observe the class.
  • No children under the age of 5 are permitted to observe the class.
  • Guests will be escorted into the building as a group at the start of class and will be asked to exit the building as soon as class is over.

Donald Byrd + Leah Terada Choreography Workshop – August 5-9, 2024

Spectrum Dance Theater & PNB School present the Donald Byrd Summer Workshop

Pacific Northwest Ballet School and The School of Spectrum Dance Theater are thrilled to announce a new collaborative summer intensive experience. PNB School will host an extension of SDT’s annual Donald Byrd Workshop for dancers ages 12 and up at the Francia Russell Center in Bellevue. Developing dancers are invited to a week-long contemporary dance workshop with Spectrum Dance Theater’s artistic director and choreographer Donald Byrd (whose work Love and Loss was recently performed during PNB’s 2023/24 Season) or PNB Company dancer Leah Terada.

The workshop portion for dancers ages 12-15 will be led by Leah Terada. Participating dancers ages 16 to 30 will take the workshop portion led by Mr. Byrd. Each day will include technique class and choreography class where students will work with Mr. Byrd or Terada on new choreographic phrases as well as excerpts of classic Donald Byrd dance works. Technique class focuses on Mr. Byrd’s movement aesthetics. It emphasizes a relaxed, strong, and flexible torso with highly articulated feet and legs with increasing rhythmic and spatial exactness. With this focus, the dancer becomes more efficient in managing energy and more able to control the visual, emotional, and physical impact of their body moving.

The PNB School + Spectrum Dance Theater Donald Byrd Workshop will take place August 5-9, 2024. The week-long workshop will culminate in an informal showcase of learned choreography.
