ACTION: Costume Measurements

Dear Advanced C students,

PNB Artistic Director, Peter Boal, has assembled a team of artistic collaborators to create an all-new production of The Sleeping Beauty that will premiere at McCaw Hall in January 2025. The ballet’s famous Garland Waltz will be staged for the 2024 annual School Performance and performed by 36 PNB School students. The first step of this exciting process will be fittings for costumes designed by Paul Tazewell, costume designer of PNB’s Swan Lake and the hit musical Hamilton.

In order to begin building the costumes, our Costume Shop will take measurements from all of the Advanced C students beginning next week. Students whose measurements are taken at this stage may not be cast to perform in the Garland Waltz. Casting decisions will be made in the coming months. Please come to the Phelps Center on Wednesday, October 11th from 5:00 to 6:00pm in the board room.

Thanks for helping PNB in this very exciting step in building a new production!!

Hallo’week’ at PNB School

Hello PNB School Families,

It’s that time of the year to shake up the student dress code a little at PNB School! All PNB School Students may wear a costume (if they choose) to their classes on Tuesday, October 31st! In order to include everyone in this fun dress-up opportunity we will also allow students who do not have classes on Tuesdays to dress up on their last scheduled class day between Wednesday, October 25th and Monday, October 30th. (Ex: I’m a level II student with classes on Wednesday the 25th and Monday the 30th; the 30th would be my dress up day).

Costumes should not restrict movement or cause great distraction in class. Students may be asked to remove costumes or costume pieces at the discretion of the Faculty.

Please contact the school if you have any questions!

New Voices hits the stage:

For the second year, New Voices II has been invited by PNB’s DISCOVER DANCE program to participate in their performance on stage at McCaw Hall! Discover Dance is managed by PNB’s Director of Community Education Shannon Barnes and is a program in which PNB teaching artists go to public elementary schools in King County and explore the art of dance and choreography with students. These students then have the wonderful opportunity to perform original works from their in-school PNB residencies for their family, teachers, and friends. As an additional bonus, PNB Company Dancers also present a short work to show how dance can evolve to a professional level. For this year’s performance, New Voices II has been invited to demonstrate a connection between these developmental stages of dance.

I will be asking the students of New Voices to choreograph a group piece with my guidance. All of the choreography will be generated by them as a collective and we will create this work in class every Wednesday. Attendance is vital!  The piece will run about 3 mins in length.
