As part of the performance experience for our youngest students and their families, Level VIII students will perform an excerpt of Serenade

The dates and times for the performances are listed below. If you are unable to commit to the following dates, please let us know by filling out the participation agreement included in this letter. We need to know your commitment by March 15th. PNB’s costume shop will be setting times for costume fittings.  There may be some additional rehearsals, but most rehearsals will be in Variation class held on Friday nights.

  • Students designated with asterisk are Level VIIs.
  • In order to participate in performances, students must attend all Friday evening Variation classes, as well as maintain consistent attendance in other classes.
  • Students must be available for all performances.

Note: There will be a warm up and spacing rehearsal for students performing at the FRC on May 20th prior to the performances.

If you have a minor schedule conflict please let us know and we will try and accommodate.  Only students who can commit will be included in the final performance casting.

Performance casting will be posted mid to late April.

Dance for All – Inclusive Creative Dance Class

As we continually strive to expand our offerings for our community, PNB School is excited to share about an upcoming pilot session of an inclusive creative dance class. Taking place at the Francia Russell Center this spring, this 8-week session is designed for students ages 6-10 years old, of all abilities and needs and is centered on providing an inclusive environment for neurodiverse learners and for students with disabilities.

Class curriculum mirrors the concepts taught in our Creative Movement classes, emphasizing rhythm, balance, coordination, expressivity, strength and teamwork in a joyful and warm environment. Additionally, this class offers a small teacher to student ratio and provides a wide breadth of support strategies. Classes are taught by PNB School faculty and accompanied by a PNB musician.

As this is a pilot session, space is limited. Applications are due by March 1st and families will be notified of enrollment on March 2nd.  For questions, please reach out to PNBSchool@pnb.org

New Voices – Letter from Ms. Stone

Dear New Voices Students and Families,

As part of our ongoing course enhancement opportunities, this letter serves as a reminder of our next adventure! All New Voices students have a ticket to see Kidd Pivot’s Revisor at the Paramount Theater. This incredible event is sponsored by a generous donation from PNB’s Education Committee. The New Voices II class had the wonderful opportuntiy earlier this year to meet with Kidd Pivot Artistic Director Chrystal Pite and she talked about her creative approach to this work during our visit. We are excited to have another opportuntiy to see more of her work after PNB’s huge success with Season’s Cannon

What:      Kidd Pivot’s Revisor

Date:       Wednesday, March 1st

Where:     The Paramount Theater, 911 Pine St., Seattle

Meet time:  6:50pm – please be punctual and consider downtown traffic delays.

Show time:  7:30pm

End time:    9:15pm

I am also thrilled to announce another visit by a leading female choreographer to meet with our students. The amazing Jessica Lang will be coming to chat with New Voices I on February 22nd! Ms. Lang is the creator of several great works that PNB had presented such as The CallingDoor to Her Sky, and Ghost Variations. Additionally, the New Voices II class will be learning an excerpt from Ghost Variations that will be taught by two principal PNB Company dancers and presented in our June showing. More on that soon!

Thank you all so much for your support of this course and know that the students are busy building wonderful new works, learning new skills, and expanding their artistic horizons in new and creative ways!

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Warmly,

Ms. Stone

ACTION REQUIRED: School Performance Information and Participation Agreement

Dear PNB School Students and Families,

Pacific Northwest Ballet School’s 42nd Annual School Performance at McCaw Hall is right around the corner. The event is a special one for students, family and friends. If your calendar isn’t already marked, circle June 17th. Tickets will go on sale in mid-March; stay tuned for more information. As we begin to prepare for these performances there are a few things we would like to share with you.

Saturday, June 17, students in Levels I-IV, Pre-Intermediate C, Intermediate C, Men’s Division, and DanceChance) perform at 12:30pm. The second performance for students in Level V-VIII begins at 6:00pm. Both performances will include Professional Division students performing a new work by PNB soloist Amanda Morgan, in addition to George Balanchine’s pivotal work, Serenade. Music for Serenade will be played by members of the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Juan Felipe Molano.

All students in Levels I and up will begin rehearsals shortly. Each level will devote a portion of class time to preparation. For this reason consistent attendance of all classes is essential. We want every student to feel well-prepared and confident as they take the stage at McCaw Hall for their class dance on June 17th. Please click on the link to review, sign, and return the School Performance Participation Agreement no later than February 28, 2023.

We sincerely appreciate your efforts to ensure students attend all classes and rehearsals during the coming months. If a student is unable to commit to their schedule we may not be able to include them in this milestone performance.

Consider joining us for our annual Student Celebration Dinner at McCaw Hall after the matinee School Performance, where graduating students are honored in celebratory fashion; it is a fantastic way to commemorate the day. Look for more details to come.

NEXT STEP, a showcase of new choreography created by PNB Company dancers for our Professional Division students, will be on Friday, June 16 at 7:30 PM, making it an exciting weekend of dance for sure.

Please be sure to continue to check the Parent Portal regularly for updates regarding School Performance rehearsals, tickets, and the Celebration Dinner.

We are looking forward to a great spring and a wonderful culmination of our School year.

Sincerely,

Peter Boal

Director
