Hallo’week’ at PNB School!

Hello PNB School Families,

It’s that time of the year to shake up the student dress code a little at PNB School! All PNB School Students may wear a costume (if they choose) to their classes on Monday, October 31st! In order to include everyone in this fun dress-up opportunity we will also allow students who do not have classes on Mondays to dress up on their last scheduled class day between October 25th and October 29th. (Ex: I’m a level II student with classes on Tuesday the 25th and Thursday the 27th; the 27th would be my dress up day).

Costumes should not restrict movement or cause great distraction in class. Students may be asked to remove costumes or costume pieces at the discretion of the Faculty.

Please contact the school if you have any questions!

DISCOVER DANCE Invitation – New Voices II

Dear New Voices II (Level VIII) Students and Families!

I’d like to welcome you all to an exciting new year of New Voices! I am thrilled to be leading this incredible class of young, talented dance makers in the fifth year of this unique course at PNBS. Even though we are only a few weeks into this new year, I am already witnessing a vibrant and creative spirit from all the young women in this class.

I’m writing because a VERY exciting opportunity had arisen that I want to share with you. New Voices II has been invited by PNB’s DISCOVER DANCE program to participate in their performance on stage at McCaw Hall! Discover Dance is managed by PNB’s Director of Community Education Shannon Barnes and is a program in which PNB teaching artists go to public elementary schools in King County and explore the art of dance and choreography with students. These students (150 of them this fall!) then have the wonderful opportunity to perform original works from their in-school PNB residencies for their family, teachers, and friends. As an additional bonus, PNB Company Dancers also present a short work to show how dance can evolve to a professional level. For this year’s performance, New Voices II has been invited to demonstrate a connection between these developmental stages of dance.

I will be asking the students of New Voices to choreograph a group piece with my guidance. All of the choreography will be generated by them as a collective and we will create this work in class every Wednesday. Attendance is vital!  The piece will run about 3 mins in length.

Performance Information:

Date: Wednesday, November 9, 2022

Time: 6:00pm

Location: McCaw Hall

Duration: 1 hour

Call Time: 5:00pm

Here’s the business side of things:

  • Dress Rehearsal will be Wednesday, November 9 from 11:15am – 12:00pm at McCaw Hall. Please arrive by 11:00am to start on stage by 11:15am.
  • Attendance at Dress Rehearsal in mandatory to perform in the evening.
  • Students have two options: they can remain at PNB with between Dress Rehearsal and the Performance and hang out with Ms. Stone and enjoy pizza and talk about dance (and watch some cool dance films!) OR students may return to school/home and come back at 5:00pm Call. Please communicate your preference.
  • Students will be excused from technique class to participate.

If your student is unable to participate, please let me know. They will still take part in the creation process as we build this work during class time. I will also ask that all dancers wear black tights and any black leotard of their choice for costume.

And families are invited to attend! Tickets are only $12 each and can be purchased through the PNB Box Office. That number is 206.441.2424.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to reach out to me! I am so excited to give these young women an opportunity to show our community the wonderful gifts they have to share!

Thanks so much!

Warmly,

Ms. Stone
